Horizon Reports: k-12

The Horizon Report is a report on the emerging technologies to watch for in k-12 education in the next 1-5 years. The report includes an executive summary of the report, technologies to watch for in categories ranging from 1-5 years, and methodology of the research. Read the 2009 and 2010 k-12 Horizon Reports. Reports can be found from previous years (nonK-12) at NMC-The Horizon Project.

Being a "Learner" is Being Responsible

I didnt want to add another blog to my webliography, but when it comes to reading about technology and education, I have found it most helpful and engaging to read the blogs of people in education and not the corporate sector. Through my blog search (ie the blogs I most often read) I stumbled upon this post on 2 Cents Worth by David Warlick. The article contemplates the issues that we, as classroom educators, struggle with on a daily basis, "How do we get the students to feel "tied to" or motivated to learn the material?" (enough to have authentic learning taking place). I also enjoyed his post on constructing meaning titled, "What is the Purpose of Education?"

The Tempered Radical by Bill Ferriter

Another blog I have found great information from (and also found on Scott McLeod's blog, Dangerously Irrelevant) is The Tempered Radical, written by Bill Ferriter. Ferriter, like McLeod writes about technology leadership, but also posts, from time to time, some really great information for tech integration (like his Teacher Tips for Wiki Projects) and assessment (on interactive white boards-IWB's). Great for technology and education specific information.

Socialization and Online Schools

I found this .pdf file while reading Scott McLeod's blog, Dangerously Irrelevant and, ironically, found it extremely relevant to my new position at school. We had been discussing learning environments on the discussion board for CSED 7763 and a classmate had brought up how difficult she though socialization would be for online learners. This .pdf explains the research done among students enrolled in online public school in grades 2, 4, and 6. The findings were quite interesting and would help make much anecdotal information more scientific in terms of actual results.

Dangerously Irrelevant by Scott McCleod

Dangerously Irrelevant is a blog written by Dr. Scott McLeod, one of the nation's "leading academic experts on k-12 school technology leadership issues." McLeod's tagline reads "Technology, Leadership, and the Future of Our Schools," and that pretty much describes the posts on the blog. McLeod provides up to date and relevant information about technology leadership and integration in education. This site is a wealth of information, not just commentary but also research based resources and materials.
I especially enjoyed his post on what he terms "America's dropout crisis" and "21st Century learning environments."

First Post

This is my first post on my new, and third, blog. This blog will be used for a classroom Webliography assignment. This assignment will require me to post three outstanding websites to share and "use when developing curriculum, writing, and/or building knowledge base in education." (CSED 7763 Syallbus, M. Mazyck, Ph. D.)
